Entry Point is a remedial reading program intended for false starters and pupils with special needs. The program focuses on three word identification skill areas: phonics, sight words and context clues. Pupils are involved in using phonic knowledge while reading for meaning. The program consists of three workbooks.
Entry Point 1 introduces pupils to the English alphabet - one letter per unit. Each unit also includes short decodable texts. The workbook provides instruction in high utility phonic elements, such as phonograms containing short vowels. The number of sight words is kept to a minimum.
Entry Point 2 introduces pupils to longer decodable texts with attention to consonant and vowel digraphs, diphthongs and long-vowel phonograms. A larger number of sight words are introduced at this stage.
Entry Point 3 includes a collection of short and easy reading texts followed by comprehension activities.
